Activities for Adults

Day Program

Our daily adult programs are year-round, Monday through Thursday from 7:50 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Individuals can expect to participate in a variety of activities such as sports, exercise, music and art. Enrichment activities such as cooking, hygiene, healthy living, life skills, social skills and science are offered as well. Field trips in and around the Birmingham area are a big part of the Foundation’s daily programming as well. To help foster friendships, program participants are divided into different groups based on the activities they enjoy. Monthly tuition starts at $230.

Extracurricular

Whether participants are a part of our daily programs or not, they have the unique opportunity to take part in our extracurricular activities. Some of the opportunities include service projects with the Aktion Club, camping with the Scout Troop, learning about healthy lifestyles and exercising with community partners and educating participants about various mediums of art in the Art Club.

Sports

Along with our daily sports, we offer additional sports for individuals with a more competitive side. The Exceptional Foundation hosts its own basketball and softball leagues on Saturdays throughout the winter and spring months as well as cheerleading. Individuals in high school can compete in our Young Adult Basketball league. Through this league, The Exceptional Foundation works with local high school and college teams to create an inclusive, competitive environment. Additionally, The Exceptional Foundation participates in Special Olympic sports such as basketball, softball, volleyball, swimming, bowling, tennis and track & field. Our participants travel all over the country competing in these sporting events.

Night & Weekend Outings

Throughout the months of August through May, The Exceptional Foundation offers several opportunities to socialize other than the Adult Day Program. About twice a month, staff will plan outings such as dinner and a movie, attend a local sporting event, plays and musicals and game night. Dances are offered about every other month on a Sunday night and are hosted by the Junior League of Birmingham. We also host an annual Prom that includes dancing to music played by a live band, lead out, a seated dinner and photo booth.
